Provide Background Details and Rationale: Fresh produce is an important part of the Park Hill menu and a required component of a reimbursable meal.

Produce pricing is impacted by weather conditions, market demand and crop availability, and therefore, can fluctuate significantly throughout the year.

To limit cost fluctuation, but also publish a competitive bid, firm pricing is required on a majority of bid items for the duration of the contract year with the option of variable pricing allowed on seasonal items that are less predictable.

A bid was issued to companies including Liberty Produce, C&C Produce, KC Produce, Loffredo Produce Company, Ben E. Keith and Kohl Wholesale. The bid was also posted on the district website to allow all interested bidders to access it.

Two companies, Liberty Produce and C&C Prodcue returned competitive bids.

In analyzing the bid responses, "no bid items" were excluded from the comparisons. C&C Produce Company was more competitive on the total bid when comparing an item by item breakdown - $960.75 bid by C&C versus $1,013.75 bid by Liberty Produce for the same items.

Also on high volume use items C&C Produce was more competitive, bidding $417.50 versus $440.35 from Liberty Produce.

Based on these results, C&C Produce has provided the most competitive bid to provide Park Hill with produce for the 2021 22 school year.
Provide Funding Source and Estimated Cost: Nutrition Service Budget - the estimated cost is $75,655.22 based on historic usage for 20/21. This usage was lower than recent years due to COVID impacting self-serve fruit and vegetable options.

However we feel this reduced cost will remain accurate for the 21 22 school year because Park Hill has also chosen to divert $150,310.81 commodity entitlement dollars to the DOD Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Program which will reduce the purchases made from our produce vendor and thus reduce overall costs.
